Kawartha Lakes Public Library is pleased to announce the opening of the new Bobcaygeon Library Branch and Municipal Service Centre on Monday Nov. 14. The new library branch is located at 123 East Street South in Bobcaygeon.

The library is located in the upper level of the municipal building. The construction and expansion of the 5,000 square-foot space for the library began in January 2022.The new library branch more than doubles the old 1,800 square foot library space at Canal Street.

“Bobcaygeon is one of the fastest growing areas in Kawartha Lakes with over 9,000 residents living in the community,” says Jamie Anderson, Library Director. “Bobcaygeon was under-served by the old location, and the new library branch will serve the community for years to come.”

“It has been a long, and at times complicated, journey to get here but we’re thrilled to have created a warm and welcoming space for this incredible community,” said Susan Ferguson, Library Board Chair. “Learning and literacy are key values for our library, so having a new branch that provides those opportunities for everyone is essential.”

Along with the expanded library space, the new library branch is fully accessible. This includes accessible parking spaces, an entrance ramp, universal washroom and accessible public computer and work stations.

The new library branch has four public computers, as well as a laptop bar where people with mobile devices can work and charge.

The branch has a separate programming and meeting room. Starting in the new year, the community will be able to book this space when not being used by the library. The meeting room will include a large wall-mounted monitor that people will be able to connect laptops and tablets to for meetings and presentations.

The expansion gives the library branch substantial space to increase its collection to about 12,000 items. The space feels airy and welcoming with plenty of room for comfy seating and study tables.

“With high ceilings, large windows, and inviting lounge areas, the newest addition to the Kawartha Lakes Public Library system is a stunning gathering space for the community,” says Marieke Junkin, Manager of Public Services.

Stay tuned for information on the official grand opening celebration to take place in January 2023, but you can visit the new branch starting November 14.
