New audio equipment makes Council meetings more accessible

City of Kawartha Lakes Council’s accessibility advisory committee recently unveiled new audio equipment for anyone who requires hearing assistance to participate in council meetings.
The devices are light weight, easy to use and offer high quality audio that works alongside hearing aids. The listening devices can be signed out from the clerk’s office.
Those wishing to sign out the assistive listening devices are asked to come to the clerk’s office and provide a piece of identification displaying their name and address.
“I’m very pleased that we now have this technology available to make taking part in council meetings more welcoming to those with hearing disabilities, says Councillor Stephen Strangway, who also served on the advisory committee.
“Council has also endorsed accessibility initiatives touching other aspects of community life, such as Lindsay Transit enhancements and our new municipal website,” he adds.
Crystal Morrissey, vice chair of the committee, says she is “thrilled that Kawartha Lakes has made this investment.”
‘It opens the door for people with hearing loss to participate in the local government process,” she says.
