Musicfest at St. James Church in Fenelon Falls: April 6
On Saturday April 6, from 11 am to 5:30 pm Musicfest 2019 will be held at St. James Anglican Church in Fenelon Falls. The event is run by the Fenelon Falls Grannies for Gannies.
Belinda Wilson will bring tears to your eyes with her “Pilgrimage of Remembrance.” Fiddles & Friends will have you laughing with their “Newfie Kitchen Party” as they haul their dory boat down the centre aisle, jigging and fiddling.
The audience will sit patiently and listen, giving encouraging applause to Bev Jeeves and her music students. Listeners will be moved by the voices of the Kawartha Male Chorus and the reUnion choir, by the instrumental sound of Northern Spirit Big Band soaring high, high to the vaulted ceiling in the beautifully renovated and acoustically perfect St. James church.
The Abernethys will bring some Irish folk music and some laughs as Sandy plays his cello and recounts some yarns. Individuals such as Nick Cheesman on the piano and Trevor Hutchinson singing his own historical song compositions will entertain. Peter Witt, from the Harry Peterson band and Pat Manahan from the Northern Spirit Big Band will combine to form a dynamite duo.
Even Lindsay Advocate Contributing Editor Trevor Hutchinson is one of the performers, bringing his own compositions about Canadian historical events and more.
Barry Howard, better known as Bazza, is a solo performer but he gets the whole audience involved. He leads an African drum circle, inviting children and adults from the audience to join in. He distributes swimming noodles and other instruments so that the whole church swells with rhythm, individuals shaking tambourines or gourds, pounding noodles on the back of church pews, all joining in to the beating drum.
There is a grand finale at 4:30, a jam session which includes mother and daughter duo, Sylvie and Sher.
This Musicfest has something for everyone, all tastes and all ages, both tears and laughter, individual pianists and big bands; forty voice choirs and individual singers; struggling music students and professional musicians. Join the Fenelon Falls Grannies for Grannies in this amazing musical day in support of a good cause. Admission is by donation. All proceeds will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers’ Campaign.
Come at 11 am and spend the day. Refreshments will be available.
