Mill Pond Bridge in Omemee closed until further notice

By Lindsay Advocate

Mill Pond Bridge on Mary Street East in Omemee is closed to vehicular traffic until further notice, although pedestrian use of Mill Pond Bridge is still accessible.

Mill Pond Bridge is currently a part of the municipality’s ongoing Bridge Program, which works towards identifying bridges within Kawartha Lakes that are in need of replacement or rehabilitation.

In early 2019, the municipality retained the services of D.M. Wills Associates Ltd. to undertake the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment and structural engineering and design services for the replacement of Mill Pond Bridge.

During the May 6 Environmental Assessment, which reviewed options for replacement of the bridge, D.M. Wills Associates Ltd. identified a structural issue which requires that Mill Pond Bridge be closed to vehicular traffic.

Once the Environmental Assessment has been completed, recommendations will be brought forward during 2020 budget deliberations for consideration by Council.

Mill Pond Bridge is a secondary bridge for vehicular traffic in Omemee. Due to this closure, residents can use the Omemee Bridge on Highway 7 as a detour if needed. Residents will be advised when the Mill Pond Bridge is scheduled to reopen.
