Long-term care protest in front of Scott’s office to be held Oct. 4
The Kawartha Lakes Health Coalition is holding a long-term care protest at Laurie Scott’s office on Oct. 4 at Noon in conjunction with Ontario Health Coalition’s province-wide protest.
“As the pandemic has put a spotlight on the systemic inadequacies in long-term care leading to the death of residents and added stress on workers, the Government of Ontario’s failure to act to reform long-term care is negligent” co-chair Zac Miller says.
The Kawartha Lakes Health Coalition has been organizing in the community to push both provincial and federal representatives in Kawartha Lakes to act to remove profit from long-term care and implement five national standards of accountability, meaningful input, standard of care, comfortable living, and equity. Unfortunately, no action by local politicians to date.
“We have politicians in Kawartha Lakes who either do not care about protecting residents and workers, or who choose to use the dire situation in long-term care for their five minutes of fame on television while not using their actual power and influence to fix the problems. We have solutions, we just need those elected to act,” says Miller.
To participate, please email with the subject line “Oct 4”. This will help to track our numbers as we are limiting the outdoor gathering to 100. Masks are required. You can still show up on the date of if you do not register.
“We welcome everyone to join us on Oct. 4 to show a sign of strength for this issue,” said Miller. “We welcome community members’ input and ideas on how they envision long-term care in the future. “
