Lindsay Downtown Business Improvement Association (LDBIA) in partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Police Service has successfully procured a grant to implement a closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) network in the downtown Lindsay core.

The purpose of the grant is to enhance public safety in Lindsay’s downtown core with the installation of CCTV cameras.

The scope of the grant will provide full coverage of downtown Lindsay including:

Kent Street West from Victoria Avenue to Lindsay Street
North and south coverage from the intersections of:
Victoria Street and Kent Street
Cambridge Street and Kent Street
William Street and Kent Street
Peel Street and Kent Street
Lindsay Street and Kent Street

The cameras will not be actively monitored by the Kawartha Lakes Police Services or the LDBIA but they will be reviewed on an as requested, as needed basis. The LDBIA will be entrusted as the owner of the equipment, they will be responsible for maintenance of the network and will likewise facilitate any requests for information in accordance with all applicable laws of governance.

The grant specifies an install completion date of spring 2024. Among many of the steps needed for the initiative to be successful is a public consultation period with the community. In that spirit, the LDBIA has created a Jump In page so that local residents can offer input. Everyone is invited to complete the survey, which can be found here.
