KLFS annual Christmas food drive

By Lindsay Advocate

Once more the Christmas trees are being put up — the time of year to make memories with family and friends. But for some, those memories are not always full of good cheer. For some, the holidays are tarnished by the ache of hunger.

With that in mind, Kawartha Lakes Food Source aims to erase that awful experience for everybody in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

KLFS will be beginning its annual Christmas food drive at Loblaws and Reid’s Valu-mart, and food barrels are always available if you would like to drop off food during hours volunteers are not present. There is also a bin at Wholesale Club.

The drive runs from December 9 until December 15. This has been a particularly hard year when it comes to the struggle for food security that many residents in the City of Kawartha Lakes face. Based on reporting from member food banks, there has been a significant spike in food insecurity all across the City, with the total count per month consistently being above 1,000 visits. That’s over 1,000 adults and children that are not sure where there next meals will come from.
