Kawartha Lakes Ontario Health Team gets executive director

The Kawartha Lakes Ontario Health Team (KL-OHT) has announced that Stephanie MacLaren will be joining the KL-OHT as executive director effective Sept. 7.

Stephanie’s career in health care spans 20 years, most recently at Haliburton Highlands Health Services where she was vice president of community programs.

MacLaren brings extensive experience in developing programs and system infrastructure to support equity oriented diabetes management, as well as working with primary care providers and other system providers to advance the structure of coordinated care. She has also supported inter-organizational teams to improve care for seniors and individuals experiencing mental health issues, according to a media release.

Her knowledge of care structures across the continuum of hospital and community sectors will inform and enrich the work and outcomes of the KL-OHT, the release states.

“I believe that collaboration, innovation, and engagement with patients, caregivers, and service providers alike are the main ingredients in moving towards a system of coordinated and seamless care. I am excited to join the Kawartha Lakes Ontario Health Team to inspire and enable those aims,” said MacLaren.

Dr. Cody Bowen, lead physician of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization, said that MacLaren brings “a wealth of experience to the KL-OHT. We are looking forward to working closely with her to help shape the future of our local health care and services within Kawartha Lakes.”

She recognizes the needs of our community and will be a great asset in connecting local health care organizations,” said Dr. Jacquelyn Choi, Associate Physician Lead of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization.

KO-OHT Co-Chairs Veronica Nelson, Ross Memorial Hospital Vice president & chief operating officer and Barb Mildon, Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes CEO are excited to be growing and expanding the KL-OHT team and look forward to the further development of the key projects that are underway.

Kawartha Lakes Ontario Health Team (KL-OHT) is a fully designated Ontario Health Team for the City of Kawartha Lakes and surrounding communities. Its mission is to coordinate and connect care to create a seamless experience for patients and families. Its year one focus is to enhance coordinated care and services for seniors 65 and older who live alone or have a support network, are frail with complex medical needs or are cognitively unwell, or who have been hospitalized within the last year.
