Join local Labour Day event on Facebook

By Lindsay Advocate

The Lindsay and District Labour Council is inviting all local citizens to join them on their Facebook page this year to celebrate the success of collective demands for safety, dignity, respect, and fair wages now, and throughout our history.

Usually the community looks forward to the local council’s annual picnic, to champion fairness in workplaces and celebrate workers’ contributions to their community.

James Mulhern, president of the LDLC, says labour’s focus is “even more urgent this year, as we live through the COVID–19 pandemic.”

He says the pandemic has underscored what can happen when public services are cut, privatized, or neglected.

“The importance of strong unions, and the value of front-line workers, has never been clearer. Workers and their unions are at the very heart of the recovery,” he says.

Mulhern says this labour day “let’s all celebrate and recommit to defending worker’s rights and public services in Canada, and to build a post-pandemic world that respects the value and the rights of all Canadian workers.”

The LDLC represents workers in sectors from health care, all levels government, hospitality, manufacturing, service, and education.

Join them on their Facebook page — Lindsay and District Labour Council — to leave comments or share what labour day means to you.
