International Plowing Match organizing committee looking for volunteers
The local arrangements committee for the 2024 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo is looking for volunteers to help plan and execute a successful event, which is scheduled to take place in Lindsay from October 1-5, 2024.
The committee is holding a volunteer recruitment night in Fenelon Falls on November 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fenelon Falls Community Centre. A second volunteer recruitment night is scheduled for November 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Bobcaygeon, to be held at the Globus Theatre box office on 90 Bolton Street.
The IPM, which is held in a different community every year, is a multi-day celebration of agriculture and rural living. It includes plowing competitions, live entertainment on multiple stages, hundreds of exhibitors, demonstrations, educational displays/activities and much more.
This event, which has been taking place for more than a century, typically attracts 80,000+ people and has an economic impact of about $25 million (based on tourism industry formulas). So important is the IPM in the province that the provincial legislature traditionally shuts down so members of provincial parliament can attend on opening day. Lindsay was to have hosted the IPM in 2021, but the event was postponed for three years on account of the pandemic.
Interested volunteers are encouraged to contact Bob Armstrong, chair of the IPM local arrangements committee, at or at 416-418-3990. Additional information is available through the 2024 IPM & Rural Expo Local Committee office, located at 165 Kent Street West, Suite 302, Bay 9.
