Help your community, be a part of IPM 2020

LEX re-imagined for 2020 but no midway or grandstand shows

The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) is coming to Lindsay for 2020, bringing excitement and an economic boost with it. Benefits for the host community are extensive, but they need your help to make it happen.

The IPM moves to a new location each year, typically attracting about 80,000 visitors and resulting in an economic impact in the range of $25 million. More than that, the IPM provides an opportunity to show the world all the great things Kawartha Lakes has to offer, fostering business relationships and tourist trips for years to come.

A portion of IPM profits will be donated to local groups/organizations (particularly to groups that volunteer their time at the event). A grand celebration of this scale couldn’t happen without the involvement of hundreds of volunteers from nearby communities. People are needed to assist with virtually every aspect of this four-day celebration of agriculture and rural living.

The IPM features plowing competitions, hundreds of exhibitors, live entertainment in multiple venues, displays and demonstrations and more. To learn how you can help make this event a success, attend a Community Meeting at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in the Commonwell Building, beginning at 7 p.m.

Members of the Ontario Plowmen’s Association (OPA) Board of Directors will be on-hand to answer your questions and find the right way to make use of your skills. A recognized not-for-profit organization, the OPA is the parent host of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo.

“Kawartha Lakes is a great agricultural community, with lots to offer,” says Sheila Marshall, OPA President. “I can’t wait to see how the community comes together and helps make IPM 2020 a memorable experience for all.”

Attendees at the Oct. 24 Community Meeting can apply for a particular role or join the pool of volunteers to be assigned tasks as planning for IPM 2020 moves forward.

In addition to learning about volunteer opportunities, the Community Meeting is your chance to pick up IPM 2020 souvenirs to kick-start your Christmas shopping. IPM 2020 runs October 14 to 17 of next year at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds and neighbouring farms. For more information, visit www.plowingmatch.org.
