Girls run for Soroptimist, promoting volunteer service
Scores of girls were set for their five km fun run/walk recently at Old Mill Park in Lindsay in support of Soroptimist International of Kawartha Lakes (SIKL).
The participants, teachers, coaches, parents and members of SIKL began their run at the Pyjama Factory entrance of the Rail Trail and returned to Old Mill Park later for a celebratory party, hosted by SIKL members.
Soroptimist members fundraise for all their programs, of which GOAL is one. Each GOAL school program costs about $3,000. All girls participating are provided with new running shoes and socks, a t-shirt with both GOAL and SIKL logos, medal, and lanyard. The cost includes materials for the course and the celebratory party upon completion.
SIKL is part of a global service organization to promote the advancement of women and girls through volunteer service to the community. Their mission statement is to help women and girls achieve their full potential as individuals and members of our community.
