Free Hospice information sessions
Living with a life-limiting illness, or moving forward after the loss of a loved one, is incredibly challenging. It is common for people to refrain from expressing their feelings under such circumstances, or to prepare themselves in advance to deal with such challenges. Officials at Community Care Hospice Services want local residents to be informed about the services available in their own community if they face such difficult situations.
For more than 30 years, Hospice Services has had one goal: to improve people’s quality of life. Though Hospice interacts with people at a very specific point in their lives, the focus is always on quality of life. There are a number of services offered to support individuals living with illness, as well as programs for people who are grieving a loss. All Hospice programs are offered free of charge. To give local residents the opportunity to learn about services available when needed, three free information sessions will be presented in August.
“We want to open our doors so our community can learn about supports that are available if they or a family member face the diagnosis of a life-limiting illness, or if they are grieving a loss,” explains Hospice Services Manager Ryan Alexander.
“At Hospice we can help people reframe their hope during very difficult circumstances. These information sessions are intended to help the community understand Hospice Services, what is offered, where support is offered, how support is offered, and how to connect with our support.”
The information sessions will also touch upon volunteer opportunities with Hospice, as well as addressing some of the myths associated with palliative care.
Session 1 and 2 will be held on Monday, Aug. 12 at Hospice Services, 2 Kent St. W., Lindsay. (10 to 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m.). Session 3 will be on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Coboconk Community Centre, 9 Grandy Rd., 6:30 to 8 p.m. People can register for any of the sessions by contacting Hospice Services at 705-879-4123, or e-mailing
