Coboconk-Norland Chamber begins fundraising for new wellness centre
The Coboconk, Norland and Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to begin fundraising for the new wellness centre to be located in Coboconk.
For its first fundraiser the chamber is introducing “Camping for a Cause: Go Wild for the Wellness Centre.” This brings out campers in the community to raise awareness for the new building, according to a press release, and to raise funds to help make the project a reality.
For 12 hours, both experienced and not-so-experienced campers will take on the great outdoors. With every donation checkpoint the participant meets, a luxury item on their camping list is added or removed, leaving the fate of their camping trip entirely in the hands of the donors.
“In the first two weeks of launching, we reached our original goal of $10,000 – now, with less than two weeks left, we are reaching for $20,000,” the release states.
The new wellness centre will provide health and well-being support, construction and year-round jobs, and a “long-term positive impact on local businesses.”
“Space will be created for more doctors, after-hours care, and other complementary practitioners and services to benefit our community.”
A participant of the camp-out, Barb Lee Young, says, “The important thing to keep in mind is that this wellness centre will benefit all of the City of Kawartha Lakes which is in need of a place for doctors, physiotherapists, dentists,” and more. “This will provide us all with the medical care we have all been needing for so long without having to drive long distances to get it.”
August 8 marks the big night for Young and the other campers.
“Will they camp in cold or comfort? It’s up to you!” says the release.
