Cinderella – A Traditional British Panto

By Lindsay Advocate

Sarah Quick, left, and Rebecca Anne Bloom, right are two of the stars in the panto.

It is the busiest time of year at Globus Theatre, as they present Cinderella from December 9th – 18th.

In this show, the 16th Panto written by Sarah Quick, you join Cinders, her BFF Buttons, her Fairy Godmother and a host of comedy characters as they join forces against a wicked Wicked Stepmother and two ugly UGLY sisters! As with all traditional British pantomimes, prepare for hilarious, colourful and crazy fun. While the kids will enjoy the action, songs and audience participation, local references and innuendos ensure that adults will love the story just as much, if not more.

Globus’ yearly Panto is the one opportunity for community actors both young and young at heart to tread the boards with the theatre’s professional company! Many of the cast are enthusiastic participants from Globus’ School of Dramatic Arts who are joined by 6 amazing professional actors: Globus Panto veterans Sarah Quick as the Wicked Stepmother, Kevin Sepaul, and James Barrett as the Ugly Stepsisters; along with emerging artists Jack Copland as Buttons, Sasha Luna as Prince Charming and Rebecca Anne Bloom as Cinderella.

“I grew up performing in pantomimes in the UK. It was the thing that sparked my love of acting and encouraged me to make theatre my career. In fact my first professional gig was in a panto in London’s West End 25 years ago now. When Globus Theatre moved to the Lakeview Arts Barn in 2006 I knew that I wanted to offer the kids in our community the same experience that I had growing up. To see so many on our stage this year is a joy! They do such a great job alongside our professional cast and audiences are going to love the energy, jokes, romance and sheer zaniness. Panto is a great tradition of performance that appeals to every generation of family – making it the perfect festive trip out, ” says Sarah Quick, playwright and director

You never know who you might see alongside the pros; your child’s friend, your neighbour’s child or a local business owner. Due to popularity, Globus has added an extra matinee on the Sunday afternoons, plus you can join us for Christmas dinner beforehand on Friday and Saturday evenings.
