Victoria Park in Lindsay will soon be home to 12 of Canada’s Provincial and Territorial trees. The City’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Division will be replacing the provincial flags and flagpoles in Victoria Park with 12 new trees (such as Alberta’s lodgepole pine, pictured.)
Each of the trees will represent the official provincial and territorial tree for each province and territory across Canada.
The current flagpoles and provincial flags located in Victoria Park were funded and installed by Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE) as part of Canada’s centennial celebration. The flags and flag poles which are in need of repair and replacement will be replaced with the planting of each provincial and territorial tree to create a growing legacy to be enjoyed for years to come.
Plans to remove the flagpoles will begin in the coming weeks. Planting of the trees will began in the fall and will resume in the spring of 2019 with the project completion featuring a ceremonial planting celebration in early summer 2019.
This project has been completed in partnership with the Wilson Estate Group.
