BioPed Lindsay is calling all Kawartha Lakes residents to put their best foot forward by donating used shoes for a good cause.

Together with Soles 4 Souls Canada, BioPed has an ambitious goal of collecting 1,000,000 pairs of shoes to help create solutions to poverty in developing countries.

The partnership collects used shoes of any type and any condition and distributes them to 128 countries around the world. Once the shoes arrive, they are given either directly to community members in need or are used in Soles 4 Souls’ micro enterprise program.

Any kind of footwear donations are accepted in any condition. BioPed Lindsay accepts footwear donations all year round.

Donations can be dropped at the BioPed clinic at 370 Kent St. W. Unit 27 Lindsay, ON.

While BioPed is new to Lindsay, having just opened as of November 2019, Janice Carr, the store’s patient coordinator is no stranger to Soles 4 Souls.

In February of 2017, Janice was one of six employees selected to travel to the Dominican Republic with BioPed and Soles 4 Souls to distribute footwear to community members, particularly children, in need.

“This was an amazing experience for me” explained Janice. “Kids in the Dominican Republic are not allowed to attend school unless they are wearing shoes, so you can imagine how important shoes are to them.”

During her trip, Janice and the Bioped team would visit schools to measure the children’s feet for proper fitting footwear, wash their feet, share stories, and play games.

When asked about her experience collecting shoes thus far, Janice said “I have been collecting gently used footwear for BioPed Peterborough for about five years. Over this time, I would say that I have collected over 8,000 pair of gently used shoes.”

Although she began her collection while working in Peterborough, Janice shared that to date, “Lindsay has been a big part of my collection… It is very common for me to come home from work and find bags for shoes waiting for me at my home.”
