Rally for Ross Memorial to stop amalgamation

By Lindsay Advocate

Under the umbrella of the Ontario Health Coalition, the newly formed Kawartha Lakes Health Coalition chapter is advocating to stop the Ross Memorial Hospital/Peterborough Regional Health Centre amalgamation, stop the reduction of services at the Ross, and stop hospital staff cuts.

Founding members Bonnie Kennedy of Bobcaygeon, Barbara Doyle of Lindsay, and Zac Miller of Pontypool formed the Coalition as a result of the open forum meeting held in Lindsay on September 12. The public consultation meetings may be “on hold” but that does not mean the amalgamation is “on hold.”By working together, there may be a chance to stop it or to reduce the cuts to services that are expected to impact Ross Memorial Hospital.

The organization is participating in a rally on October 23 in Toronto by the Ontario Health Coalition, and a bus from Lindsay will be made available if a minimum of 50 people are committed to attend. Reserve your seat by calling Bonnie Kennedy at 705-738-2617 orĀ KawarthaLakesHealthCoalition@gmail.com.

There will also be the ‘Rally for Ross’ event on Monday, Oct. 29 from 11 am to 1 pm on the corner of Kent and Angeline Streets outside of the Ross to peacefully show support for keeping Ross funded, serviced and staffed without amalgamation.

The Lindsay Advocate has been at the forefront of this battle against amalgamation, with several in-depth features and reportage on the Ontario Health Coalition’s assistance to the community in resisting the merger.

If you wish to support this effort, contact the Coalition to sign or host the petition that will be presented at Queen’s Park.
