The Lindsay Agricultural Society (LAS) is pleased to announce the 2022 “Merry & Bright Festival” opens today, December 15, 2022. The Merry & Bright Festival runs December 15 – 23, 2022. The Festival is open for visitors to drive-through from 5:30pm – 8:30pm each night, except December 17th. New this year, the organizing committee is pleased to offer a magical horse-drawn wagon ride opportunity for visitors on December 17th. Wagon ride tickets must be purchased in advance and include a hot chocolate provided by Boyd Real Estate and a gingerbread cookie provided by the Lindsay Agricultural Society.
The drive-through festival of lights is a joint fundraiser for the Lindsay Agricultural Society, the Kawartha Food Source, Lindsay Lions Club, Heritage Christian School, the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes, and BGC Kawarthas.
Businesses, community groups, farms, and community members have been hard at work on the LEX grounds this week, putting finishing touches on their light displays. We’re looking forward to welcoming the community onto the grounds to experience a bigger and brighter Festival this year with close to 40 displays that showcase our community’s creativity and holiday spirit.
The Merry & Bright Festival opening ceremony was held December 14, 2022 at the Commonwell Exhibition Building. LAS President Dr. Lois Batty opened the ceremonies saying the LAS is proud and excited to open the Festival again this year for the community to enjoy. Councillors McDonald and Smeaton brought greetings on behalf of Mayor Elmslie. Councillor McDonald remarked on the success of the first two years of the event, noting that the contributions the Festival have made to the community are appreciated by all. Councillor Smeaton said he and his family enjoyed the Festival last year and that as a Councillor, he is pleased to be able to attend events like the Merry & Bright Festival to celebrate the organizers’ efforts and their contributions to the community. Representatives from the Kawartha Food Source, the Lindsay Lions Club, Heritage Christian School, the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes, and BGC Kawarthas were present for the ceremony.
