MEALS ON WHEELS EXPANDS IN FENELON FALLS AND BOBCAYGEON

Community Care’s popular Meals on Wheels program has responded to growing need in the Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon areas. In August, the noon-hour meal service expanded from three to five days a week (Monday to Friday, excluding holidays), and a two-day-a-week (Monday and Wednesday) program has just been launched in Bobcaygeon on a pilot basis.

Affordable, freshly-cooked, nutritious hot meals can be delivered to your door across much of the City through Community Support Services’ Meals on Wheels program for seniors and adults with special needs who are experiencing difficulty with cooking or healthy eating.

The program helps ensure clients’ nutritional needs are met while also providing social interaction and a safety check from the volunteers who make the deliveries.

Hot meal delivery is at a pre-arranged time through our team at Community Care. Call 705-324-7323 for more information regarding your community.

$6 per meal includes soup, entrée, a bun, dessert and delivery. Contact us to register for Meals on Wheels.

Don’t forget that we also offer a wide variety of nutritious frozen meals that can be delivered or purchased at any of our Community Support Services offices. Further information available on our website By Clicking Here.

HOSPICE CORE TRAINING RETURNS

Staff from Community Care’s Hospice Services are currently seeking caring and compassionate individuals interested in participating in an upcoming core training series in order to become volunteers with Hospice programs. Volunteers are required to take the training in order to work with Hospice clients. Individuals interested in taking the training will gain a better understanding of the hospice palliative care philosophy and how to support clients. There will be 10 sessions, on Tuesday and Friday afternoons at 2 Kent St. W. in Lindsay, beginning Sept. 19.

Upon completion of the core training, participants will have gained a better understanding for the different aspects of palliative care, providing comfort measures for end-of-life clients, attitudes towards death and dying, communication, family dynamics, grief & loss, and much more.

Enrolment in the upcoming Hospice Core Training program can be done by contacting the office at 705-879-4123. A registration fee applies.

YARD SALE SUPPORTS STROKE SURVIVOR GROUP

Bargain hunters were out in full force on Saturday, Aug. 26, in support of the fundraising yard sale presented by Community Care. The sale raised more than $500 that will be put towards an upcoming social outing for participants in the Stroke Survivor Support Group.

Through its monthly support group that offers encouragement and gives people the chance to meet others experiencing similar challenges, Community Care provides a positive experience for stroke survivors. The group is for people who have experienced stroke, their families and caregivers.

Participants share their stories with peers who appreciate their experiences, and facilitators provide information about local resources and services. Guest speakers from other organizations and community support organizations are featured regularly. There is no cost to take part in the sessions.

Thanks to all who supported the sale by donating items or making purchases.
