Amnesty International Freedom Dinner

The 31st annual Amnesty International Freedom dinner is set for Saturday, April 13 with this year’s cuisine focus from Bangladesh.

Each year’s dinner features dishes from a different country experiencing human rights abuses, and each year’s dinner features a guest speaker intimately familiar with conditions in the country. This year the speaker will be Rhonda Gossen, Senior Advisor for the Rohingya crisis, Bangladesh Relations Desk, for Global Affairs Canada.

A little rain, a little sun gleaming through. It was perfect rainbow conditions for the fourth annual Kawartha Lakes Pride Picnic, held Saturday in Victoria Park, and though no rainbows formed overhead, they were everywhere at the picnic — on banners, clusters of balloons, this year’s t-shirts and even painted onto children’s cheeks.

‘Freedom Dinner’ in Lindsay is ‘fundamental’ to Amnesty mission

The Lindsay chapter of Amnesty International will be holding its 30th annual Freedom Dinner April 28 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church.

According to one of the local organizers, Lori Moore, the Freedom Dinner is one of the two main annual fundraisers for the group. Every year the group picks one country to highlight and this year’s country is Turkey. The dinner will consist of Turkish cuisine prepared by local caterer extraordinaire Edna Smith.
