The power of a cookie, and a community, has made a big difference in the fight against hunger in Kawartha Lakes.

From April 28-May 4, the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign returned to local restaurants with its trademark chocolate chunk cookies and signature pink-and-blue smiles. This year’s campaign raised an incredible $21,066.55 in support of Kawartha Lakes Food Source (KLFS), a local non-profit committed to addressing food insecurity across the region.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from every Smile Cookie sold at the five participating Tim Hortons restaurants in Lindsay were donated to two local organizations—Ross Memorial Hospital and Kawartha Lakes Food Source. This incredible outcome was made possible thanks to the generosity of Tim Hortons customers and the dedication of local owners and their hardworking teams

“We are so grateful to the Tim Hortons owners and their incredible teams for choosing KLFS once again,” said Kathy Ridout, executive director of Kawartha Lakes Food Source, in a press release. “Their enthusiasm and the community’s overwhelming support mean we can continue to supply local food banks, support school nutrition programs, and help ensure everyone in our region has access to healthy food.”

The Smile Cookie Campaign is a national Tim Hortons initiative, with local restaurant owners selecting a charity in their community to benefit from the proceeds. This year’s success reflects the kindness and commitment of people throughout the Kawartha Lakes who purchased cookies, placed pre-orders, and helped spread the word.

“To every person who bought a cookie—you helped nourish more than just smiles,” Ridout added. “Thank you for making a tangible difference in the lives of your neighbours.”
