Ken Reid: Free parking on Family Day

What better way to spend Family Day than by enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the great outdoors? To celebrate families across the Kawartha Watershed, and encourage area families and visitors to enjoy the regions ecological diversity, parking will be free at Ken Reid Conservation Area on Monday, February 19.

“As Kawartha Conservation’s flagship conservation area, Ken Reid is a beautiful 110 acre area featuring numerous trails and boardwalks highlighting different ecological features,” explained Director, Stewardship and Conservation Lands, Kristie Virgoe, “Ken Reid offers several loop trails that lead through forests, meadows, and wetlands.

A favourite route includes the floating boardwalk that winds through the provincially significant MacLaren Creek Wetland bordering Sturgeon Lake.”

During the winter months, quiet hikers may catch a glimpse of a deer, fox, hare, or other wildlife that live in the meadows and forests of the park. There are also several bird species and owls that make their home at Ken Reid Conservation Area.

“There is so much to see and so much variety of trails here at Ken Reid,” said Ms. Virgoe. “Bundle up and bring the whole family for a wonderful hike, ski or snowshoe and enjoy a memorable Family Day at one of the best jewels in the Kawartha Lakes.”

Ken Reid Conservation Area is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is located at 277 Kenrei Road just outside of Lindsay.
